Description: Bringing food from overseas - aerial views of a convoy, escorting cruiser USS Birmingham, and an Astre-Torres type SS airship. Unloading supplies - grain ships discharge cargo into barges. India Line ships in dry dock (cf IWM 552/03). Fishing fleet returns to harbour - medium shots of drifters Oceanic, Robinia, Zetland, etc. Trawlers unload onto snow-covered wharves (cf IWM 552/04). "The Birth of a Standard Ship": first twelve sequences from IWM 552/02, showing the construction and launch of a standard merchant hull, with final title exhorting "patriotic men" to become War Work Volunteers in the shipyards. "Ships that guard the Foodships": aerial view of Hunt Class minesweeper(?); Medium close-up onboard destroyer as torpedo is manhandled into single torpedo tube - the pointer sits astride the tube which is trained over the starboard beam; HMS Firedrake (97) passes left to right; medium close-up as torpedo is fired. "Dirty Weather": high-angle medium shot to after deckhouse on destroyer at speed in heavy seas - man coming forward is knocked down by wind and spray, but recovers and goes below. Medium shot of destroyer closing on starboard quarter. HMS Opportune (G.59) passes cameraship. Medium shot from astern as HMS King Edward VII fires to starboard with full battery of 12, 9.2, and 6-inch guns. High-angle medium close-up of 12-inch turret on King Edward VII as it fires by single barrels. Final title exhorts the audience to join the War Work Volunteers.
